Rigged Voting Machines

Clinton Curtis testified that he was approached by Tom Feeney to develop electronic voting systems which could be instructed to flip the result without people’s knowledge.

He was working as a software developer for Yang Enterprises at the time. Later he reported on Yang’s leaking of sensitive Government data.

His testimony is important and highlights again the importance of Open Source software as technology becomes more pervasive in society, and our private lives.

The source code must be visible and verifiable.

“You know, comrades,” says Stalin, “that I think in regard to this: I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this — who will count the votes, and how.‘ – Boris Bazhanov’s Memoirs of Stalin’s Former Secretary.

The Microchip

“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” – Revelation 16-17

The software on these chips must be visible to the public, must be open source.

Government Control

I first noticed this when reading a blog on Planet Ubuntu.

As technology increasingly pervades our personal life, it’s important that we understand exactly what effect a piece of technology has. From voting machines to microchips, we need to see the source code.
